GDD202 Final

My first object is a bench that is used in the Grassy Park level. I tried to make it fairly realistic, but unlike some of the other objects, it isn't very shiny.

The gravestone is used in Level 5 of my CubeQuest game. It was a very simple object to make, though I played around with specularity settings and the bump map to make it appear more gravelly and prevent it from being shiny (because why would a grave ever be shiny).

The turret is one of my more complex objects and it appears in the Abandoned Lab Level, which is Level 3 in Cubequest. I made it have a rough texture along with rocky camouflage to make it look sort of sleek. It has a distinct metallic sheen.

The Snowman game prop is another somewhat complex prop, though not as much as the turret. Featuring a carrot nose, top hat, and coal features, it is found in Level 2 of my Unity game. They are scattered throughout the level, watching the player.

The final object is the laser, which is my most complex object. Featuring sleek, sharp textures, it has a very powerful appearance, with both hard metal and vivid colors. There is only one laser in the game (due to its immense size and polygons) found in Level 3.

Texture Update

For this update, I have all of the PLANNED textures done. However, before this is over, I plan to combine them all into one UV, like the snowman uv that is pictured at the bottom of these four images. I decided to scrap the scarecrow, as it doesn't hit anywhere. The laser is going to look futuristic in design, while the turrets will be camouflaged. I've also worked on putting the objects in my game, but only the snowman is completed thus far.

New Plan for Game Objects

I made an executive decision to, rather than make a bunch of random objects, make objects for my game in GDD200.

The first picture shows my original choice of models- a bench, a flower pot, a turret, and a scythe.

The new plan consists of adding objects to levels. Featured below is:

  • A wooden bench for a beautiful grassy mountain.
  • A snowman complete with a hat, carrot nose, and arms for the snow level. Debating on whether I'll make them enemies or not.
  • Lasers and Turrets for the Toxic Waste Plant- giving it like a hidden laboratory feel. The laser is going to be added on to. I want it to look really complicated.
  • A scarecrow like creature. I don't know where it's going to be.
  • A small tombstone for my halloween level.
I might add a few more things, such as a mossy rock or a torch or something. Regardless, it should be interesting!

Weapons Project Research

For the weapon's project, I'm thinking of doing some cool designs for traditional weapons, such as a scythe. The kind of game I'm going for is a game with a grim reaper, but with a much more urban and sort of twist on the whole "dark and morbid" thing.

Final Room Render

From where I left off, I added more to the table and background. The render from last week is below:

I added posters of monsters and movies in the background to give it a more grungy, funky flair, as well as adding a few little knick knacks such as pretty ornate vases and coasters on the table. A door is also in the background. However, the room is still incomplete:

To edit the final picture, I decided to put in a sky in the window. Going into photoshop, I placed a sky picture under the picture of the room, and deleted the glowing white light from the room. The final result, and my final render is below:
In the end, I sort of went away from my original gothic castle plan in exchange for a more moody, subtle dark room. While I didn't stay true to my original plan, I am still happy with the results of my work. I only wish I knew how much of the room was going to appear in the render- I made way too much furniture. However, overall, I am pleased with this project.

Week 3.5

For this week, I finished texturing all of my objects, choosing a bright red for the couches, grey wood for the other part of the couches, brown wood for the tables, and marble for the tiny side table. The window lighting has also been started, although I still have a lot of editing to do before it is complete. I also added in a dark rug and a texture on the wall to give the room a more complete vibe. The sort of grungy, moody look I was going for can definitely been seen.
